VOOM, REB FOUNTAIN AND VERA ELLEN JOIN FORCES FOR NATIONAL TOUR THIS MAY - JUNE

This winter, indie pop perennials Voom, collide with the spellbinding magnetic folk rock prowess of Reb Fountain and join forces with beguiling indie rocker Vera Ellen hitting the road for four unmissable shows throughout New Zealand. Three of Aotearoa’s finest live acts on one bill playing their own sets for what promises to be a show for the ages.

Presented by Eccles Entertainment and the Student Radio Network, the tour begins in Christchurch at James Hay Theatre on Thursday 30 May followed by Errick’s in Dunedin on Friday 31 May. Wellington is next at Great Hall on Saturday June 1 followed by Auckland’s Powerstation on Sunday June 2 (Kings Birthday eve).

Recently resurrected Voom, may have only released two albums over the last two decades, but this is easily made up for by their raft of classic songs, including Be Your Boy, King Kong, We’re So Lost, Relax and Beth. Voom don't play often, but when they do it is an occasion. Their most recent show at a packed Auckland Town Hall for ‘Save the b’ is a testament to their cult like following. The chaotic genius of founding member Buzz Moller has for the last 20 years been accompanied by Nick Buckton (sidekicknick), as well as Murray Fisher of Goodshirt fame, with Josh Sorenson on drums. After several years away from the limelight, the band have recently reissued their album Hello, Are You There? vinyl LP which is out now via Flying Nun Records, with a long overdue new record due for release later in 2024.

Anybody who has seen Reb Fountain and band full flight knows the power of their live show.

"I watched Reb Fountain last Saturday, prowling across the stage like Patti Smith and Cat Power one- minute, Nick Cave living his best life the next. Reb was a revelation. I could have watched that show on any stage in the world – and Reb would have deserved to be there.”  Stuff, 2022.

If you’re just catching up Reb’s Flying Nun debut Reb Fountain and sophomore IRIS were both released to critical acclaim; with the former winning The Taite Music Prize in 2021 and receiving five-star reviews and accolades from the likes of MOJO’s Martin Aston and American Songwriter. Invoking a blend of folk, art-pop and rock unrivalled in Aotearoa, this tour is all about the rock n roll for Reb as she prepares new music for 2024.

Winner of Best Alternative Artist at the 2022 Aotearoa Music Awards, Wellington based Vera Ellen is the perfect addition to this indie trifecta. Her 2023 album Ideal Home Noise showcased her sharp songwriting with Rolling Stone describing it as a “constant battle between bright rhythm and wry self-deprecation opposite heavy beats and raw emotion”. On stage, Ellen and her five piece band are utterly captivating drawing the audience into their world of bright rhythm and self-deprecation opposite heavy beats and raw emotion.
