MARLON WILLIAMS ‘MY BOY’ AOTEAROA TOUR

Joining Marlon at The Civic in Auckland on Thursday 19th January is an artist who needs no introduction - Nadia Reid. Acclaimed New Zealand musician Nadia Reid is praised the world over for her intimate, complex songwriting. She is described by The Guardian as ‘an understated, wise guise through uncertain territory’ while her lyrics are called ‘allegorical… brutally honest’ by The Revue. Reid is currently working on her fourth album.

The following evening Friday 20th January at The Civic will be opened by Vera Ellen. Vera Ellen is a Wellington/Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist and wildly prolific songwriter, who some may recognise from LA band Girl Friday (Hardly Art), or grungy NZ 4-piece Maple Syrup. The artist’s Flying Nun debut, It’s Your Birthday, is stacked full of hooked-to-the-brim melodies, and cleverly guided by Vera’s clear, confident and relaxed vocal presence. Vera Ellen recently picked up an Aotearoa Music Award for Best Alternative Album.

In Wellington at the Michael Fowler Centre local band Womb will bring their shoegaze pop sounds to life. Made up of siblings Cello and Haz Forrester plus the addition of Georgette Brown, Womb have been recording and touring since their debut EP release in 2015. Sophomore album Dreaming Of The Future Again was released just out last month via Flying Nun Records!

Close to Marlon’s heart, the CBS Choir will welcome the audience at the Town Hall in Christchurch with their beautiful renditions. Marlon and band member Ben Woolley cut their teeth singing and touring internationally with the CBS Choir as teenagers. Choir Director Don Whelan was an early musical mentor for Marlon and he has invited the choir to perform some of his personal favourites for a special full circle moment.

And finally, for the last show of the tour in Dunedin. friend and collaborator Delaney Davidson performs at The Regent theatre. One of the most distinctive figures in the NZ musical Landscape, Delaney Davidson is well known for his hypnotic and original live performances. Currently working on his 10th album, the enigmatic multi-instrumentalist is often found playing in tiny nooks around the world but lucky fans can catch him in person in Dunedin with Marlon Williams this summer!

After a whirlwind year of releasing #1 Top 40 album My Boy and playing two international tours Marlon Williams and his band The Yarra Benders are primed to give fans a taste of new music and a world class performance.

These are Marlon’s first full band shows since headlining the 2020 Laneway Festival and Nest Fest 2022 and with such eclectic and engaging opening acts this tour just got a whole lot better.
